Nazaruddin was sentenced to two cases, namely the corruption case of the Hambalang Athletic House project in 2012 and money laundering in 2016. Nazaruddin should have been in prison until 2024, but he received a remission of 45 months and 120 days. The Directorate General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights said that the remission was given because Nazaruddin had the status justice collaborator.

However, the KPK said it had never given this status to Nazaruddin. However, the KPK acknowledged that Nazaruddin helped uncover the corruption case.
