On Thursday morning, a two-thirds majority of the Grand Council accepted the motion submitted by six Upper Land councilors against the canton’s planned enlargement of the Tschingel nature reserve: The 83 votes in favor against 52 against (15 abstentions) oblige the government council, the will of the motionaries and their 2,800 co-signatories comply and refrain from increasing the protective perimeter.
In the run-up to the vote, various party representatives spoke up. The Frutiger GLP Council also belonged to them Martin Egger: “It is not a question of circumventing federal law or other federal requirements, but rather of leaving a nature reserve that has always worked very well in coexistence with people.”
