Natural gas bill is approaching 2,500 euros | Instagram VTM NEWS

The average natural gas bill for an average family is approaching 2,500 euros. This is evident from new figures from the federal energy regulator Creg. For electricity, this concerns almost 1,250 euros.

The unprecedented price increases on world energy markets are brutally reflected in household bills. Figures from the Creg show that a family with an average consumption that enters into a variable contract in October is on average with an annual bill of 2,488 euros. For Flanders this is 2,367 euros, for Walloon families even 2,639 euros.

That is almost 750 euros higher than the average commercial natural gas price in September.

Increase of 230 euros

Prices for electricity are also rising. The average commercial electricity price for a Belgian family with an average consumption is 1,248 euros in October, in Flanders that is 1,258 euros on average. This is an increase of more than 230 euros compared to the average price in September.

To be clear: not all families pay such a high annual bill. The regulator’s figures refer to households with variable contracts, while two-thirds of households have fixed contracts. And the figures that the Creg has collected are the average commercial prices for October, plotted on an annual basis. Those numbers change monthly.
