NATO Will Not Invoke Collective Defense in Response to Poland’s Accusations Against Belarus

NATO is not going to apply the principle of collective defense after Poland’s accusations against Belarus. This was stated by the head of the press service of the US State Department Matthew Miller.

“There is a process for NATO countries to invoke Article Five [о принципе коллективной обороны]. We are not currently in that situation,” said Matthew Miller during a briefing broadcast on the official youtube channel US State Department.

The fifth article of the NATO Charter provides for a collective response to an armed attack on one or more member countries of the alliance. An agreement to this effect was signed in Washington in 1949.

Earlier URA.RU reported that two Belarusian helicopters violated air space Poland. After that, Warsaw promised to increase the grouping of troops on the border with Belarus due to an alleged violation of the airspace. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus believes that Warsaw’s statement about the violation of the border of Poland by Belarusian helicopters is far-fetched.
