National Social Security Fund announces major improvements in health coverage

The Public Relations Directorate of the National Social Security Fund issued the following statement: “Several days ago, the Director General of the Social Security Fund, Dr. Muhammad Karaki reported a series of improvements in health provision at the level of medicine and hospitalization, represented by raising the Fund’s contribution for generic chronic medications to 60% (75% of the Fund’s contribution, which is set at 80% of the prices of the Ministry of Public Health), meaning that, for example, the medicine priced from Before the Ministry of Public Health, one million LBP. The guaranteed amount is recovered from the Fund when it provides 600 thousand LBP. It will be announced soon that the Fund’s contribution of 50% of the tariffs for the collected medical and surgical work will come into effect. In this context, Dr. Karki issued his instructions to the directorates concerned with insurance, especially to the Directorate of Statistics and Organization of Work Methods, so that the mechanization programs can be amended and the new pharmaceutical regulations should be included to become effective as of 1/26/2024, and the insured can now begin submitting their health transactions accordingly. Also, these new drug regulations will be published on the Fund’s official website in case the insured want to view the prices of their medications or their family’s medications and the value of the new insurance coverage. Below we include a table of 15 examples of chronic medications according to the prices of the Ministry of Public Health, followed by the value of the Fund’s contribution to them (the table is attached with the pictures)

On this occasion, the Director General confirms that work is continuing in the Fund and its management in order to restore health coverage of 80% for medicine and 90% for hospitalization, as it was before the crisis, in order to preserve the dignity of the insured citizen, who was proven with evidence that he was forced to sell his property and withdraw his end-of-service compensation to secure his treatment when he fell ill. The Fund stopped playing its role due to the financial crises and the deterioration of the currency exchange rate that the country is experiencing and the failure of the three production parties to do their part to protect the guarantee. He also called Dr. Everyone, including the state, health institutions, employers, workers, unions, and all active parties in the country, called for concerted efforts and cooperation to advance the Social Security Institution by providing it with the necessary funding, so that Lebanon can return to the Orient Hospital and our competent medical teams can return to work there, after a large portion of our most important and famous doctors were forced to leave the country in search of research. “For a living.”
