Denise Tonella has distinguished herself through several large exhibitions in the State Museum.

The new director of the National Museum Zurich is Denise Tonella. The 41-year-old curator and exhibition organizer has been working at the State Museum since 2010. She succeeds Andreas Spillmann, who successfully managed and shaped the museum for fourteen years.
Tonella comes from Airolo in Ticino and will start her new position in April 2021. Until then, she will be preparing for the big spring exhibition at the State Museum on the subject of «Women.Rights | From the Enlightenment to the Present ».
Historian and filmmaker
Denise Tonella is delighted with her choice, which the museum announced on Friday: “I am honored and happy to lead the Swiss National Museum into the future.” But she doesn’t want to give any information about her exact plans until next April.
