National Dance Award Guillermo Arriaga 2023 Finalist Pieces: Two Dance Programs at Bosque Cultural Center

The public who loves dance art will once again be able to enjoy the most outstanding pieces that participated in the National Dance Award Guillermo Arriaga, XL INBAL-UAM 2023 Contemporary Choreographic Creation Competition, held in November. The Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico and the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (Inbal), through the National Dance Coordination, will present these new functions at the Dance Theater Guillermina Bravo.

The season will consist of two different dance programs that will each be performed during one weekend. In the first program, which will have performances from Thursday, February 15 to Sunday, February 18, it will run Quote, by the Crónico Arte Lúdico company (Veracruz), under the direction of Luis Vallejo; This piece seeks to recreate a journey of landscapes, full of memorable moments, which occur in the different encounters that occur throughout life, with family, friends or partner.

On the same dates it will be presented satanan, with direction and choreography by Carina Herrera Luna, Jorge Emanuelle Sanders Bustos and Marlene Coronel Ortiz. In this production, its three performers embark on a journey to enter a territory marked by memories, stories, traces and absences. During the choreographic journey they weave a space inhabited by personal evocations and establish a dialogue between the ghosts of the past and the presence of bodies in movement.

The third work to be performed will be Concrete is eternaldirected and choreographed by César Brodermann, winner of the National Dance Award Guillermo ArriagaXL Contemporary Choreographic Creation Competition INBAL-UAM 2023. The piece proposes a physical and emotional investigation that seeks to experience all mental powers from the constant search for identity, its creators use the activity of construction as a starting point and, At the same time, they question the challenges that daily work imposes.

The second dance program, which will run from Thursday, February 22 to Sunday, February 25, includes Fire on the Mountain, Lovers on the Bridge, by the duo Carlaxguillermo; It is a piece that exposes the relationship between two bodies in movement and the sound of their voices when manipulated by autotunea tool frequently used in music production.

It will also be the turn of The sheep and the wolf, a contemporary dance work directed and choreographed by Paola Reyes, which combines abstract movement with theatricality and dialogue. The piece, performed by a trio of dancers, reflects the psychological mechanisms that occur in response to pain through metaphorical characters that appear as projections of a disturbed mind.

This program will end with the interpretation of Transmigration(s), by the group Estudio 28 (Veracruz) with direction and choreography by María Castañeda Rose and Rodrigo Angoitia Guerrero. In this montage, the future of individuals is presented as a continuous sequence of transformations that evoke the flow of a river.
