Natalie MacMaster Gets Teary on Red Carpet at ECMAs, Wins Director’s Special Achievement Award

Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster, known for her high-energy performances, was honored with the director’s special achievement award at the East Coast Music Awards held at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax. MacMaster, who has been living in Ontario for two decades, got emotional during the red carpet interview and expressed her fear of being forgotten by her homeland. Her daughter, Mary Frances Leahy, played with the band and accompanied her on the carpet. The event was attended by fellow musicians including Enfield rapper Classified, who posed with his family and friends. The night ended with Antigonish rockers The Trews winning the Best Rock Recording award for their song Wanderer, while April Wine’s Myles Goodwyn was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
