NASA’s Perseverance Rover Discovers Evidence of Water Flow on Mars

DKYLB.COM (27/12/2023) – NASA’s Perseverance rover has found strong evidence of the history of water flow on Mars, strengthening the possibility that the red planet was once home to rivers and oceans.

Although the search for conclusive evidence of life on Mars continues, scientists are increasingly supporting the idea that Mars was a watery world, which potentially fostered life millions of years ago.

Reported The Times of India Wednesday (27/12/2023), throughout history, Mars has captivated human attention, depicted as a god, an extraterrestrial realm, and even a target for invaders. Decades of scientific investigation have shown the presence of water on Mars in the past, raising the possibility of past life.

Although definitive proof of life on Mars remains elusive, the existing consensus is that Mars was once a planet characterized by flowing water.

Perseverance, a NASA rover conducting important exploration of the surface of Mars, recently made important discoveries regarding water-related features.

A photo released by NASA, taken with Perseverance’s Mastcam-Z camera, reveals an interesting collection of rocks and gravel scattered across Mars’ Jezero Crater, specifically in an area known as ‘Castell Henllys.’

NASA confirmed that these rocks and gravel were carried away by powerful flood waters billions of years ago.

The Perseverance mission, with a primary focus on Astrobiology, aims to provide conclusive evidence of extraterrestrial life. While this may not necessarily involve the stereotypical antenna-toting aliens depicted in popular media, the discovery of microorganisms or their fossils on Mars would be groundbreaking.

The search for water on distant planets has its roots in Earth’s evolutionary history. Life on Earth originated in water, starting with microorganisms and eventually giving rise to complex aquatic organisms. Scientists believe that the development of animals and plants that live on land follows this aquatic phase.

Therefore, the presence of water on a planet increases the chances of life. Apart from Mars, Europa, Jupiter’s moon, is also a promising candidate for the search for life. Scientists speculate about a vast liquid ocean beneath its icy surface that could potentially support life.
