NASA Astronomers Discover Star Older Than The Universe: Methuselah’s Star Shocks Scientists

GORAJUARA – A team of astronomers with NASA’s Hubble space telescope has discovered the birth of a star that has existed for a long time.

In this case, the star is thought to be 14.5 billion years old, which is potentially older than the universe.

Compared with the stars discovered, the calculated age of the universe is around 13.8 billion years.

However, previous estimates from observations in 2000 put the star’s age at 16 billion years.

Reporting from the science.nasa.gov site by GORAJUARA, the age of the universe is determined independently by the rate of expansion of space.

In this case, there is also an analysis of the microwave background of the Big Bang and measurements of radioactive decay.

This “Methuselah’s Star” cataloged as HD 140283 was known for more than a century for its rapid movement across the sky.

The high speed of motion is proof that the star is just a visitor to our stellar neighborhood.

In this case, the orbit takes it down through the stars surrounding the Milky Way, where it will eventually hurtle back into the galaxy’s halo.

These stars formed in the very early days before the universe, where most were “polluted” with heavy elements that formed inside stars through Nucleosynthesis.

For your information, nucleosynthesis is the process of creating new atomic nuclei from pre-existing protons and neutrons.
