Myanmar Junta Supports Russian Invasion of Ukraine: For the sake of State Sovereignty

Military Junta Myanmar support invasion Russia to Ukraine, under the pretext of state sovereignty. This support is given amid the increasing escalation of fighting and the efforts of the international community trying to defuse the crisis in the Eastern European country.

“Russian troops have taken the right steps to defend their sovereignty,” said Zaw Min Tun, spokesman for Myanmar’s military junta. AFP.

The spokesman then said, “Russia is showing its position to the world as a world power.”

Russia is currently besieging and bombarding Ukraine after announcing its invasion of the Donbas region, Eastern Ukraine on Thursday (24/2).

The fighting intensified as Moscow forces forced their way into almost the entire territory of Ukraine. The Kiev forces worked as hard as they could to defend their territory and country.

As a result of the invasion, according to temporary data from the Ukrainian government, there were 198 fatalities and as many as 150 residents were reported to have fled.

Russia and Myanmar are known to have warm diplomatic relations. Moscow is Naypyidaw’s main ally and arms supplier to the country’s military.

In 2021, the head of the Myanmar Military Junta, Min Aung Hlaing visited Russia and met with the Red Bear Country’s arms exporter, Rosoboronexport in Moscow. During the meeting, they discussed military cooperation between the two countries.

Aung Hlaing also told Russian Defense Minister Segei Shoigu that the Myanmar army became one of the strongest forces in the region thanks to Moscow’s help.

Myanmar is also not spared from conflict. The country is also in turmoil after the military toppled the legitimate government in February 2021.

The military does not hesitate to kill anyone who opposes their rule. To date, the Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners of Myanmar has recorded 1,528 deaths and 12,396 arrests since the coup.
