This Saturday, June 27, there was a tense situation inside the Cabimas checkpoint, when, apparently, the pranes demanded medical attention for a group of prisoners with tuberculosis.
After noon, neighboring communities reported shootings and even grenade explosions.
On the afternoon of this Sunday 28-J, the Twitter account of the Venezuelan Prison Observatory (OVP) reported the identity of an inmate reported dead.
“As Deivis David Torrealba Santana was identified the inmate who died yesterday in ward B of the Cabimas Retention, where the pranes started a riot to demand medical assistance for tuberculosis patients #Zulia #Venezuela #CrisisPenitenciaria”, reports the tweet from @oveprisión .
Early, and also through Twitter, Ventana a la Libertad reported without providing further details: “2 inmates died was the balance of the Mutiny occurred yesterday Saturday # 26June2020 in the Reten de Cabimas in the state of Zulia … The prisoners, family members, staff who work there and visitors have Precautionary Measures of Protection of the @CIDH since February of this year 2020. “
