Museum of Communication shows the best press drawings

(sda) Because the museums in the canton of Bern are currently closed due to the corona virus. And currently, because of the number of infections, it does not look as if the federal government and canton will announce easing for the cultural sector. “We are therefore preparing for both,” said Nico Gurtner, Head of Marketing and Communication at the museum, the Keystone-SDA news agency.

In other words, if the museum remains closed, the public can view the exhibition in digital form. If you like, you can take part in a voluntary collection.

The corona crisis had a profound impact on 2020. As early as the spring, draftsmen and the Museum for Communication published several Corona cartoons a day, thereby providing relief for themselves and the readers. A selection of these over 400 works is now being published as a book on the occasion of the exhibition.

The exhibition “Drawn” also deliberately wants to take up other topics. “We would like to show the diversity of themes and drawings again this year”, the draftsman Tom Künzli, one of the people behind the exhibition, is quoted in a message from the museum on Thursday.

The Corona cartoons are therefore moved to the permanent exhibition, so that more space is created in the actual exhibition room for other important events and debates of the past twelve months: from the presidential elections in the USA to Black Lifes Matter to conspiracy theories and the ups and downs of the Swiss Politics.

The press artists captured the challenges, bangs and humorous highlights of this unusual year in a pointed manner and with a dash of humor.

The exhibition under the title “Drawn” brings together around 50 press illustrators, including well-known names such as Patrick Chappatte, Orlando Eisenmann and Felix Schaad.

The exhibition – in whatever form – lasts until February 7, 2021.
