Muscat Indian Social Club Cultural Award for KS Chitra

Muscat: Replay singer KS Chitra was honored this year with the Muscat Indian Social Club Cultural Award. The prize consists of two Indian lakh rupees and a sculpture. Organizer of the Malayalam section of the Indian Social Club of Muscat P. The award was announced by the governing body headed by Sreekumar.

Convener P. Sreekumar said he was selected for the award in recognition of his contributions to the music industry. Convener Sreekumar will deliver the cultural award to KS Chitra in a ceremony to be held at the Al Felaj Le Grand Auditorium on Friday 23 September as part of this year’s Onam celebrations of the Malayalam section.
Indian Ambassador Amit Narang will be the main host of the cultural meeting to be held concurrently with the awards ceremony and Babu Rajendran, general secretary of the Muscat Indian Social Club will also participate. As part of the Onam celebrations, the category Malayalam has continuously awarded the Kala Samskarika Award since 1996 to unique talents who have shown excellent work in the field of arts and culture.

The celebrations will begin on Friday 23 September at 6pm. This year, the Malayalam section also organized an Onasadhya for more than 2,000 invited guests on Saturday 24 September. Onasadya is prepared under the guidance of Sudhir and Surendran, famous for Valluvanadan Sadya.
The musical fusion performed by the famous flute player Shri Rajesh Cherthala and his team, Chenda Melam performed by Melam Muscat and dances performed by the members of the Malayalam section will be staged as part of the celebrations. Convener P Sreekumar, co-convenor Lekha Vinod and treasurer Ajitkumar Menon announced in a joint press release that after two years, the Malayalam section welcomes all to the cultural function and the widely organized Onagoshama program.
