Municipalities will start distributing reusable masks to the needy / Article / LSM.lv

Due to the prevalence of Covid-19 and the requirement to wear a mouth and nose mask in public places, municipalities today are starting to distribute state-funded reusable hygienic face masks to vulnerable people.

“In total, there are just over 108,000 of these vulnerable people in these hygienic face masks. Two masks are expected to be distributed to each of them. 130,000 masks will be delivered by 17 November. The second phase of mask delivery will be from 26 November to December. “says Mārtiņš Baltmanis, Deputy Head of the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS).

“Municipalities will invite people from the respective groups to come and receive masks. The second option envisages that the social service will deliver the mask when providing a service. The third option envisages that municipalities will deliver masks to shelters, night shelters, day centers, crisis centers for distribution to their clients, “explains Baltmanis.

CONTEXT:

Masks for the needy have been purchased, taking into account the faster spread of Covid-19, as well as the requirement to wear a mouth and nose mask in public places. The first masks will receive municipalities where there are more low-income and poor people.

During the Covid-19 outbreak in the spring, an emergency situation was declared in Latvia to control the new coronavirus. The situation was stable in the summer, but the morbidity at the end of September fast increased. The government tightened security measures, but the incidence of Covid-19 continued to rise.

In order to limit the spread of Covid-19 in Latvia, the government decided on Friday, November 6, at an extraordinary meeting to re-declare the state of emergency, which will be valid from November 9 to December 6, and during which there will be new, stricter restrictions.
