Municipal: the PCF mayor of Montreuil claims support for the PS … without the party’s agreement

PS or not PS? Patrice Bessac, the communist mayor of Montreuil, will he leave with the support of the socialists in the next municipal elections? Less than two months before the election, a campaign leaflet of the councilor aroused the ire of the departmental official, the first federal secretary of the PS Mathieu Monot, who accused him of using the party logo socialist.

In the leaflet in question, called “In your neighborhood, they and they get involved with Patrice Bessac, your mayor”, we find the signature of two local socialist elected officials, Michelle Bonneau and Olivier Stern, presenting themselves as “co-chairs of the PS group and related ”accompanied by the famous logo.

A bulletin in which they give their support to the outgoing councilor. “The socialist elected representatives wish to continue to act to reduce the fractures in the city […]. For this we need a left assembled and at work. “

No agreement “to date” between socialists and communists

Except that the municipal council of Montreuil has two socialist groups. That of the two elected officials in question, and that of Choukri Yonis – responsible for the Montreal section of the PS -, who launched his own collective “Montreuil 2020 La Ville en commun” for municipal elections.

Montreuil, December 2019. The head of the PS PS local chapter Choukri Yonis. LP / H.H.

“The elected officials described as socialist and related group co-chairs do not belong to the socialist group recognized by the federation, ”tackle Mathieu Monot in a letter addressed to Patrice Bessac, on January 11.

Lawsuit ?

A letter in which he reminds the mayor that “no political agreement exists, to date” between the PS and the communists on Montreuil. And where he urged him to withdraw the bulletin in question from social networks by Wednesday, subject to legal action.

“I am very socialist, moreover I am federal secretary”, pleads for his part Olivier Stern, one of the elected officials who supports Patrice Bessac in the bulletin. Recalling in passing that “in cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, it is not the federal office that decides, but the national office”.

“For the moment, nothing has been recorded, but we suspect that the national will not support Choukri Yonis. We just answered the call for a rally launched by the mayor who has just started his campaign, ”explains Olivier Stern.
