As part of the musical devotions in the Himmelfahrtskirche (Kidlerstrasse 15) the traditional series “organ music by candlelight” will take place again on the magnificent owl organ with its well over 2,000 organ pipes. In this 45-minute musical prayer, atmospheric music sounds through the history of organ music as well as meditative texts about Lent.

Works by Franck and Standford

The third evening, on Saturday, March 6th, will be organized by the organist of the Augustinian Church in Würzburg, Hans-Bernhard Ruß, with works by Johann Gottfried Walter, César Franck, Charles Villiers Standford, Oliver Messian and Jeanne Demessieux. Pastor Peter Kocher reads the texts. It starts at 7 p.m. Admission is free, donations to support and promote church music at the Ascension Church are gladly accepted at the exit.

The monthly “OrgelAndacht” will take place on Sunday, March 7th at 7 pm. The Hamburg composer Andreas Willscher (* 1955) will hear his “Way of the Cross” composed in 2000 with 14 organ meditations. Pastor Christine Glaser from the Church of the Assumption speaks the connecting words.
