Multon (and Adidas ‘ goodbye) to Kurt Zouma of West Ham for brutally kicking his cats

West Ham has not hesitated to condemn the attitude and punish his player, Kurt Zouma, with two weeks without pay (about 300,000 euros), after making public a shameful video of the player mistreating two cats of his property.

The German sportswear firm Adidas has announced that it has terminated its contractual relationship with the talented French player. ” We have concluded our investigation and can confirm that Kurt Zouma is no longer an athlete hired by Adidas, ” the company said.

In addition to a suspension of salary by his club, the German sports firm has unilaterally broken the sponsorship to Zouma

Everything happened at the home of the French footballer while his brother, who has been the one who has published it on a social network, recorded the scene, in the presence of a minor. The post was deleted shortly after, but they couldn’t stop it from going viral.

The indignation of those who saw the publication was not long in coming and many fans rushed to demand punishment for Zouma who has apologized for his unacceptable attitude: “I want to apologize for my actions. There are no excuses for my behavior, which I sincerely regret.”

The United Kingdom was one of the pioneers in legislating the mistreatment of animals and already in 1822 they published a law that fought against the Cruel Treatment of Livestock and that a few years later, in 1835, would become the Cruelty to Animals Act.

This legislation has been revised and amended on numerous occasions to reach the current Animal Protection Law passed by parliament last year and which considers animals sentient beings.

New laws

Changes in legislation in favour of animals are increasingly being adopted by European countries

We did not have to wait long for Spain to opt for the position of the United Kingdom and other countries in this regard, since last January 5 there was a modification in our Civil Code where animals are no longer considered things but beings endowed with sensitivity and feelings.

Following the shameful video of Zouma cruelly mistreating his pets, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), has acted by removing the player’s possession of the two felines and has opened an investigation in collaboration with the English police.

And the consequences have only begun to take place, because Kurt Zouma could face a sentence of up to 5 years in prison and not 6 months as it would have been until the change in legislation, for animal abuse. The new Animal Welfare Act allows English courts, from 29 June 2021, to take a firmer approach to cases of abuse and, in addition to a prison sentence, offenders can also receive an unlimited fine.

“Now that we have left the European Union, the UK has new freedoms to further strengthen animal welfare standards and consolidate its place as a world champion of animal rights,” reads a statement issued by the British Government. The United Kingdom thus pretends to be an example, sending a clear message that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated and that its sentences will be the harshest in Europe.
