MTA and New York Authorities Seize 57 Vehicles Belonging to Fare Evaders with Ghost License Plates

In a new collaboration the MTA and New York authorities seized 57 vehicles belonging to fare evaders or drivers who were circulating with ghost license plates through the tunnels and bridges of the City.

The Metropolitan Transportation Agency (MTA) said the most recent work was done on the bridges Cross Bay Veterans Memorial, Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges and George Washington.

Also on the bridge Goethals. and the Bayon Bridge.

The fifty vehicles were brought in for a series of violations that include tax evasion, driving with unregistered vehicles or with suspended licenses.

Through a statement, the MTA said that the violators were on it collected nearly $302,000 in unpaid taxesry debt with the department.

In addition, during the operation 19 people were arrested and 100 summonses were issued.

So far this year 11 operations were carried out of this kind where 675 vehicles were seized, 161 were arrested and 4,771 citations were issued.

The MTA’s bridge and tunnel division said it has recovered more than 98% of the tolls owed from repeat offenders.
