Mpox: Herbal Treatment for Monkey Pox in Jakarta, Banten, and West Java

Jakarta

Cases of monkey pox, which was later officially named Mpox, currently total 33 people. The latest data collected by the Indonesian Ministry of Health on Thursday (2/11/2023) shows that Mpox is spread across three provinces, namely DKI Jakarta, Banten and West Java.

So far, only three of them have recovered or recovered from symptoms.

The Association of Indonesian Traditional Medicine and Herbal Medicine Developers (PDPOTJI) said that it is currently conducting research on the use of herbal topical medicine for people with Mpox.

“There is a history of traditional empirical experience from the ancient times of our ancestors, indeed there is a treatment called lontar Kacacar. There is indeed a herbal medicine that can be applied to people who suffer from any type of smallpox,” explained the Chair of PDPOTJI, Dr. Inggrid Tania when contacted Friday ( 11/3/2023).

“It turns out that this herb was previously used for cases of smallpox and this could possibly also be used in cases of Mpox, just like the antiviral for smallpox that is used for Mpox, as well as solid herbal medicines.

Lontar smallpox is said to have at least 75 herbal plants which can relieve the symptoms of Mpox patients, especially lesions and rashes on the skin.

However, the use of herbal medicines which are usually applied topically or typically on skin lesions in Mpox patients must be done very hygienically.

“Even the slightest lack of hygiene, in preparing and applying it, can actually trigger secondary infections, bacterial infections,” he concluded.
