The fast food chain is now investigating the case, the BBC reports. Maddie ate a Happy Meal her mother Laura had picked up from a local McDonald’s restaurant. The woman eventually managed to take the object out of her daughter’s throat. “The mask was just baked in,” Laura tells the nugget to the BBC. “I had to put my finger in her mouth to make her vomit. Everything came out speckled blue, ” said the mother.

Mother Laura indicated to the English news channel that she went straight back to the McDonald’s location to talk to a manager. The fast food chain says in a response that food safety is of paramount importance and that the company places emphasis on quality controls. “As soon as we became aware of the incident, we opened an investigation into the supplier to ensure that every product from the same batch is removed from the restaurants,” said a spokesman.

The mother and her daughter have since received apologies from McDonald’s. Nothing is known about further steps.
