SUZZARA. Mourning in the world of medicine for the death of Professor Piero Zanini, former Chief of Surgery for 30 years, medical director of the Montecchi hospital for 25 years and former director of the nursing school from 1969 to 1978. He was 94 years old. The funeral will take place today at 16.30 in the church of the Immaculate Conception in compliance with anti-Covid norms19. After mass the coffin will continue to the cemetery of Palidano di Gonzaga for the burial of the body.
Zanini, having obtained his classical high school diploma with full marks at the “Arnaldo da Brescia” high school, enrolled in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Milan and began attending the operating rooms from the fifth year. He was a pupil of Gianmaria Fasiani, a very strict clinician, a pioneer of neurosurgery and of Luigi Gallone, to whom he was bound by deep esteem and affection. Another luminary that Zanini was able to attend was the late Edmondo Malan who paved the way for kidney transplants. After a period in Brescia, Zanini won the primary surgeon competition and moved to Suzzara from 1 February 1966 where he practiced his profession for more than 30 years. From 1979 he was health coordinator of the former USSL 49. Until retirement he was also health director of “Montecchi”.
The professor. Zanini, in addition to being an appreciated surgeon, was a man very involved in social work and in many other activities: in 2002 as a representative of the Mantuan doctors he joined the Board of Directors of the Mantua Community Foundation; in 2005 he was appointed member of the Technical-Scientific Supervisory Commission of the Suzzara hospital. In the same year he entered the board of the University of Free Time in Suzzara with which he organized conferences and medical-scientific conferences. In 2006, as a Rotarian member for several years, he was appointed Incoming President for the year of the Rotary club Gonzaga-Suzzara. On May 31, 1996, the Padan Studies and Research Group awarded him the prestigious recognition of the “Golden Tower”, established in 1987 and assigned to people, bodies or associations that have distinguished themselves and that have honored the city of Suzzara.
Prof Zanini, beyond his medical profession, had a great passion for historical research, in particular on the history of France from Louis XIV, the French Revolution, the epic of Napoleon Bonaparte up to the Restoration which for years reported in the periodical “L ‘Eco di Suzzara “. He was also the author of a book on the French Revolution. Piero Zanini leaves his children, friends, former colleagues and relatives in pain. Condolence was expressed to the family by the mayor Ivan Ongari on behalf of the whole municipal administration.
