Mountaineer falls into a crevasse on Gran Paradiso. Rescue suspended: “It’s too hot, you risk a collapse”

The Aosta Valley Alpine Rescue is intervening on the Gran Paradiso for the recovery of a climber who fell into a crevasse, but had to suspend operations because the increase in temperatures could cause collapses. Recovery will resume tomorrow morning, provided conditions allow.

The accident occurred at dawn under the north face, at around 3,400 meters above sea level. A consortium of two people, probably Italian, was involved who was proceeding towards the summit. On the spot intervened the Aosta Valley Mountain Rescue and the helicopter finance guard, who set to work to recover the wounded man, who finished about 30 meters inside the ice crack.

According to what has been reconstructed so far, the companion was injured in an attempt to keep him on the surface. The man, who suffered minor injuries, was rescued from the mountain rescue.-
