French MotoGP rider Johann Zarco was sanctioned by the commissioners of the International Motorcycling Federation for the maneuver which on Sunday 16 August, during the Austrian Grand Prix, led to the accident involving Franco Morbidelli: at the next Styrian Grand Prix on 23 August Zarco will start from pitlane, that is, from the pits. The commissioners, after listening to Zarco and Morbidelli, have decided to punish the French driver for “irresponsible driving”.
The bikes of the two riders after the accident had risked overwhelming Maverick Viñales and Valentino Rossi, who had complained a lot about the dangers of riding Zarco. The Austrian MotoGP Grand Prix was then won by Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso, ahead of Joan Mir (Suzuki) and Jack Miller (Ducati).
