Motocross insurance: guarantees and costs

Guarantees and cost of an approved motocross

Some motocross bikes are approved for use on the road. Registered, they are therefore authorized to circulate on public roads. Like all other two-wheelers, they are subject to compulsory third-party insurance.

The guarantee may be limited to civil liability towards third parties or include an accident damage guarantee covering the machine in the event of a collision or fall, but also theft or fire. It is also prudent to provide a driver’s guarantee.

These vehicles benefit from the guarantees / insurance linked to the license of which their driver must be the holder if he is a member of a club affiliated to the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM), with regard to circulation on circuits or terrain approved by the FFM and excluding traffic on roads open to public traffic.

Rate

Depending on the insurer, the guarantees taken out, the motorcycle insured and the profile of the rider, the average annual price can be considered to be between 250 and 600 euros.

Non-homologated motocross: guarantees and cost

The vast majority of motocross bikes are not homologated and do not have a registration card. These motorcycles must be declared to the prefecture which assigns them a mandatory identification number essential for their insurance. Ensure through a motorcycle club by taking a federal license which necessarily includes civil liability insurance covering bodily injury to third parties. Its cost varies depending on the engine size of the motorcycle, the discipline practiced and the age of the rider. It is between 95 and 290 euros depending on whether it is a training or competition license (the third party insurance portion representing 20 to 71 euros).

Please note, this insurance formula linked to the license of the French Motorcycling Federation (FFM) only covers in the event of driving on the circuit or field of an affiliated club with the exception of all traffic on land and paths. private other than those belonging to clubs affiliated to the FFM.

Make sure with a motorcycle insurer which offers specific contracts. The pilot must choose according to the guarantees offered and opt at least for the third party guarantee. Depending on the offer, the value and the age of his machine, he can take out cover for damage by accident or collision, but also cover the risk of theft and fire of the motorcycle.

Its price depends on the displacement (from 50 to 1200 cm3) and the insured model. The pilot’s personal guarantee is strongly recommended in the event of a bodily accident. It can supplement those related to the FFM license (whose capital is limited to 40,000 euros in the event of death and with a relative deductible of 9% for permanent disability), but above all intervene in the event of an accident. occurred on private property for drivers who practice off circuit or on a club approved by the federation.
