Motion of mistrust against Hasan Aydin, president of the CPAS of Verviers

It’s the clash in Verviers: the president of the CPAS is out of the game by the majority. The crisis has been brewing for several months already between the municipal college and Hasan Aydin, the president of the CPAS. The majority accused him of mismanagement of social assistance finances.

This Sunday evening, everything accelerated. The municipal authorities of Verviers have met during an extraordinary municipal college. They took the decision to exclude Hasan Aydin from the socialist group of the municipal council and to oust him from the presidency of the CPAS. A motion of mistrust was voted against it.

A press conference was convened at 11 p.m. yesterday evening – an unusual time to say the least – to formalize this dismissal procedure.

Confidence is completely broken

Hasan Aydin is however a local heavyweight at the PS level. He was an alderman and even occupied the post of bourgmestre serving in Verviers.

But his management of the finances of the CPAS and the last controversies around the social hotlines and the blockade room provoked a divorce with the municipal college and its socialist and liberal leaders.

“Confidence is completely broken,” said Muriel Targnion, the mayor of Verviers, last night.

A municipal council is convened for July 6. It will appoint a replacement for Hasan Aydin at the head of the CPAS.
