‘Moscow Doesn’t Believe in Tears’ Star Sentenced to Quarter-Century: You’ll Shudder When You Find Out Why

The consequences of a stormy romance could not be hidden.

Zoya Fedorova was remembered by the audience for her role as Aunt Pasha’s guardian in the film “Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears”, as well as in the film “Wedding in Malinovka”. Despite her successful career, the fate of the talented Soviet actress was dramatic.

In 1945, the artist had an affair with the American diplomat Jackson Tate. They met at a reception at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The novel lasted for a year, after which the American left the USSR, leaving Fedorova in an interesting position.

To hide the fact of pregnancy from the public, the actress jumped out to marry the composer Alexander Ryazanov and gave birth to a daughter in a legal marriage. However, the fact of communication with a foreigner was revealed, and in 1946 Fedorova was accused of espionage and sentenced to 25 years in a penal colony.

Subsequently, the punishment was eased, and the actress was released in 1955. She continued her film career and got small roles in famous films.

Fedorova died at the age of 71. She was killed in her own apartment: the cause of her death was a shot to the back of the neck. The investigation yielded nothing, but only gave rise to many theories and conjectures.
