Mortal Kombat 12 presented by the voice actor of Johnny Cage

NetherRealm has neither confirmed nor denied its plans for a new Mortal Kombat game following the huge success of Mortal Kombat 11. Normally, the pattern would be for a new Injustice game in between Mortal Kombat offerings, but these are not normal times. Warner Bros. has hinted that it might be willing to sell NetherRealm for the right price, though that price has yet to rise.

To further cement the idea that NetherRealm is working on a new Mortal Kombat game, Johnny Cage voice actor Andrew Bowen tweeted a video on monday of himself on the Warner Bros. studio lot, which likely involves some recording sessions for the foreseeable future. As one Twitter follower pointed out, the background music in the tweet was Mortal Kombat 2 arcade soundtrack. “All deadly techniques. It’s a savage fight.”

THE GAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Last summer, industry insider Jeff Grubb said on his Grubbsnax podcast that NetherRealm was likely to prioritize a new Mortal Kombat game over Injustice due to uncertainty over its future with Warner Bros. A sale would likely not include the rights to DC characters like Batman. and Superman, but would likely include Mortal Kombat IP.

“I wouldn’t say this is safe,” Grubb said, “but it lines up with reality and it lines up with what I’ve heard where Mortal Kombat 12 would make more sense because it’s a game that they know will make money.”

Warner Bros. has since confirmed full support of NetherRealm and that he will remain with the company.

Fans will likely still have a long way to go for Mortal Kombat 12. When asked if NetherRealm will have any big announcements for Mortal Kombat’s 30th anniversary, studio head Ed Boon said simply “no.” Mortal Kombat was absent and Summer Game Fest too.

While you wait for more Mortal Kombat news, could I suggest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge? It’s an arcade-style beat ’em up with strong Turtles in Time vibes, and has some references to classic arcade fighting games. One of them turns out to be Mortal Kombat and Liu Kang’s bicycle kick.
