The director of the biotechnology laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Rabat and member of the National Scientific Committee of Covid-19 in Morocco, Azeddine Ibrahimi, argued that a study by several Moroccan researchers, to be published soon, concludes that the neighboring country has identified its first variant of the coronavirus, detected in Ouarzazate and called B.1.528.
Mr. Ibrahimi described this variant as “100% Moroccan”, while waiting to know the details of its biological characteristics.
The researcher found the presence of 28 variants of the virus in Morocco, including that of Nigeria, although the existence of that of South Africa has not been verified.
