National ice hockey player Moritz Seider returns to the Mannheim eagles because of the corona pandemic.
The eight-time German champion agreed with the NHL club Detroit Red Wings on a loan agreement. It stipulates that the 19-year-old should continue to participate in training and game operations with the eagles for the time being.
The German Ice Hockey League (DEL) plans to start its season on November 13th. It is still unclear when the NHL will enter the next season due to the sharp rise in corona infections in the USA. Because the 2019/20 season is currently being closed in “bubbles” in Edmonton and Toronto, a restart cannot be expected until early December at the earliest. Recently, there was a lot of evidence of a start in the new year.
Corona pandemic prevented Seider’s NHL debut
Seider was drafted sixth by Detroit in 2019. After a strong season at the Grand Rapid Griffins farm team in the AHL, the defender was supposed to make his NHL debut at the end of the main round, but the round was ended prematurely due to Corona. The defeated Red Wings did not qualify for the final tournament.

Seider had already shown his great potential in the 2017/18 season in the Mannheim jersey. At the 2019 World Cup, he made a strong debut in the national team at the age of 18. According to Adler, the loan agreement is valid indefinitely, but can be terminated by Detroit at any time.
