Morfov alleges betrayal by majority of National Theater artists.

The dismissed director Alexander Morfov gathered support from dozens of actors and citizens. Their demand is that the director of the National Theater Vasil Vassilev resigns.

Morfov himself also joined the procession to thank for the support.

Actors and artists from the newly created “Movement for Culture” held their first demonstration in front of the Ministry of Culture and the Presidency in support of the disciplinary dismissed director.

“There was something that needed to be said, and that is that we cannot live like this anymore. I am really appealing – people, let us wake up and reject the hegemony of those who have ruled us for so many years. Everything that happening in the National Theater is a mirror of what is happening in the state,” Morfov said during the procession, reported Bulgaria ON AIR.

The requests are legislative changes in the cultural sector and the dismissal of the director of the National Theater Vasil Vassilev.

“I can’t forget and I can’t keep silent about the words that are in the media, that the director Vasil Vassilev says, that in the National Theater personalities are not important. So what are we working for and what is this theater for – isn’t it all done for the people, for the personalities, for the talented people”, said the actor Hristo Garbov.

“We want changes to be made in the Law on the theater, on the performing arts, on the non-performing arts. There is no such law at the moment,” emphasized the actor Valery Yordanov.

“The atmosphere is unfavorable, destructive. This person should leave there, because he is a random person, he does not understand, he is not nurtured with the theater, he has no relation to the theater,” says the actor Kamen Donev.

Other artists also talked about Vasil Vassilev’s personal attitude towards them. Former Pleven theater actress Nadia Novoselska worked there at the time Vassilev was director. She says that after returning from maternity leave, she did not get a role for more than a year. Three years later, when the law already allows the dismissal of an employee after maternity leave, Vassilev does just that.

“The next day, just as this happened, he called me and told me that he had a great offer for me – to sign a document for my departure by mutual consent, which I did not want to do. He threatened me that if I did not sign this document, I will never see a scene for the rest of my life,” said Nadia Novoselska.

And the biggest pain for Morfov from what happened at the National Theater is: “The fact that the artists of the National Theater betrayed me, except for two people.”

The actors submitted the declaration with their demands to the president, the prime minister and the minister of culture.
