The Commission for Education and Culture of the Spanish Episcopal Conference has made public today in a statement the data collected by the 69 diocesan delegations of education in 18,043 centers public, concerted and private. Not all schools, but yes “a significant majority”point.

The figures show that the percentage of students who study Religion decreases when they reach Baccalaureate and that the highest levels are recorded in Primary Education. From 59.2% of the student body in Infant, it goes to 62.77% in Primary, 59.15% in ESO and 48.25% in Baccalaureate. Although this trend is general, the subject of Catholic Religion is more popular in concerted centers (89.62%) than in private (75.21%) and public (48%).

“We value very positively that more than three million male and female students study Religion weekly as a freely chosen subject; is about Significant numbers that must be considered in the context of a diverse society of growing plurality cultural and religious”, affirm the bishops.
