More than a quarter of old-timers late for the inspection | Inland

In 2021, 27 percent of old-timers turned up late for the periodic inspection, an increase of ten percentage points compared to a year earlier. This is evident from figures from Minister of Mobility Lydia Peeters (Open Vld) at the request of Brecht Warnez (CD&V).

The periodic inspection for old-timers has been mandatory since 2018. Last year, 27 percent were late for the appointment, compared to 16 percent for normal cars.

“We note that a growing number of old-timers are presented too late for a periodic inspection, this is a sign on the wall,” says Warnez. “Perhaps corona was the cause, but it is also possible that the unclear rules made the old-timer owners uncertain about whether or not to obtain a valid inspection certificate.”

Of the vehicles that were inspected, 56 percent received a green card the first time. The main reasons for rejection were poorly adjusted lights, excessive carbon monoxide emissions, a problem with the windshield washers, insufficient braking power and oil loss.

“I call on the minister to take action in consultation with the old-timer associations so that various aspects of the inspection can be adjusted. The consultation with the stakeholders is the perfect moment for this,” says Warnez.
