The Immunization Directorate of the Ministry of Health reported that, since June 2021, 1,385,424 doses of covid-19 vaccines have been applied in the country’s native Andean and Amazonian communities, some of which are located in remote regions of the country. Mountain range.

Therefore, the vaccination brigades applied 544,582 first doses, 477,145 second doses, 304,629 third doses and 59,068 fourth doses.

A total of 809,612 doses of the vaccine were applied to the inhabitants of the indigenous Andean communities and 575,812 to the Amazonian ethnic groups.

To fulfill this task, the ministry installed fixed vaccination points in concentrated rural areas, also sent traveling brigades in mobile units and river boats to dispersed rural areas, and other brigade members traveled in small planes in border areas.

The Ministry’s Director of Indigenous or Origin Peoples, Julio Mendigure, highlighted the intercultural dialogue his sector used with indigenous leaders to explain the benefits of immunization, as communities initially avoided vaccination and entry. of health personnel in their territories.

Mendigure assured that they will continue to apply “the different strategies ranging from social participation and community alliances, which allow coordination with indigenous leaders, the involvement of local governments, civil society, church and social programs”.

“The participation of community agents, social promoters, indigenous links and intercultural managers is invaluable,” the official added.

Peru applied a total of 84 million doses of the covid-19 vaccine. To date, over 20 million inhabitants (72.9% of the total) have three doses of the vaccine. EFE
