more than 300 people at the white march in tribute to Yannis Benallègue

Yannis Benallègue, a 34-year-old father, was run over by a motorist on Friday, January 9, while driving on the East Urban Boulevard (BUE). He was performing his usual route between his home in Meyzieu and his work in Villeurbanne.

A white march was organized this Sunday, January 17, by his family and by the association “La Ville à Vélo”. It linked the Francisque-Jomard stadium to Vaulx-en-Velin and the Miriam-Makeba esplanade to Villeurbanne.

Scheduled to start at 10 a.m., it was late and the participants left around 10.45 a.m.

They were more than 300 to pay homage to karateka, well known in the town.

Among those present, Fabien Bagnon, former member of La Ville à Vélo and vice-president of the Métropole de Lyon, in charge of roads and active mobility. He participates “as a friend of Pierre” Cr Nepal, the father-in-law of the victim and representative of the association of cyclists in Vaulx-en-Velin.

The procession notably went to the crossroads of boulevard des Droits-de-l’Homme and rue Marius-Grosso, place of the tragedy, where a wreath was laid.

The march ended shortly after 12:15 on the Esplanade Miriam-Makeba, in Villeurbanne, with applause and a song dedicated to Yannis, We will miss you mate.
