More than 2,000 teachers in Madrid will do PCR after giving positive in the serological test

The Minister of Education of the Community of Madrid, Enrique Ossorio, pointed out this Sunday that “between 2,000 and 2,500 teachers” will undergo a PCR test after giving positive in serological tests carried out by the Community of Madrid before the start of the school year.

In a visit to the youth hostel in the Madrid municipality of Rascafría, Ossorio has estimated 66,000 teachers who have undergone the serological tests, of the 72,000 who were summoned, that is, 90% of the teachers.

“The more that go, the safer,” said Ossorio about the antibody tests of around 100,000 teachers before the start of the school year in the region, which began in a staggered manner on Friday with the first cycle of Infant (0-3 years ).

These more than 2,000 teachers who have tested positive in serological tests PCR tests began this Saturday and will continue in the coming days and, if positive, will be replaced by interim.

These substitute teachers would be additional to the 10,610 teachers that the Community of Madrid will hire to face this course marked by a second wave of contagion of coronavirus.

Ossorio has commented that the Ministry of Education had very little time to do the 100,000 tests and has again apologized for the queues that formed at the La Paloma Secondary Education Institute on Wednesday, the first day of the call, which forced to postpone the tests because the assistants could not maintain a safe distance.

The counselor has recognized the difficulty of reducing the ratios in classrooms to 20 students, for what they are looking for additional spaces within educational centers which, if not found, could be premises provided by town halls or prefabricated modules.

“There will be some contagion”

He has called for tranquility in the face of the measures promoted by the Community of Madrid to return to the classrooms, while admitting that “there will be some contagion“.

Regarding the teachers’ strike called for September 22 and 23, Ossorio has said that the reasons are “strictly political”, since when it was announced “they did not know the protocol and there were no outbreaks.”
