More spirits and fewer bras: this is what we spent our money on during the corona year 2020

There are also major shifts in spending in other areas during the corona year 2020. Sometimes much more was spent, sometimes much less.

Take our second most important chunk of spending: food and non-alcoholic beverages, which account for 14 percent of our spending. In 2020, we spent an average of around 5,600 euros per household on the purchase of food products and non-alcoholic drinks, an increase of no less than 12 percent compared to 2018.

For example, we spent 6 percent more on bread and grain products, 10 percent more on fruit, 10 percent more on milk, 12 percent more on meat, 15 percent more on fish and shellfish, 23 percent more on coffee, 26 percent more on vegetables. Yes, food and drinks took a much bigger bite out of our budget in 2020.
