The red-red-green state government and the CDU in Thuringia have agreed in the budget committee that primary school teachers will receive the same pay as their colleagues at other types of school from August 1, 2021. In addition, primary school teachers can also teach in mainstream schools without compromising – without any loss of salary and according to their training in the main subject.
In November, the GEW had another JA13 Campaign put pressure on the countries again. “The corona pandemic has once again clearly shown how indispensable the work of primary school and secondary school teachers is,” said GEW board member Frauke Gützkow. In most federal states, primary school teachers, and in some also teachers in lower secondary level, are still paid less than those at grammar schools.
A13 / E13 has been implemented in Brandenburg, Berlin, Saxony and, since this school year, also in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Graduated plans have been agreed in Bremen and Schleswig-Holstein. In Hamburg, the legislative process for the higher grouping is underway. In Lower Saxony, allowances for elementary, secondary and secondary school teachers were introduced for the current school year.

North Rhine-Westphalia only wants to convert every 20th job at elementary schools into an A13 promotion instead of paying all colleagues better.
