More evacuations due to forest fires in Brandenburg | Abroad

The other fire rages further south in a nature reserve in the state of Saxony, near the border with the Czech Republic. Just like France, Spain and Portugal, both countries are now dealing with drought, which means that fires can easily spread.

In southern Brandenburg, more than 150 firefighters are trying to control a blaze that has hit an area of some 800 hectares. A strong wind makes the fight difficult, especially near the village of Rehfeld. On Monday, seven firefighters were injured.

The fire in a national park in Saxony broke out on the other side of the national border, presumably by a careless camper. In the Czech Republic, several houses have been destroyed and dozens of people, including tourists, evacuated. The wind is also a problem for firefighting in this area, for which emergency services have turned out en masse.
