The death toll from the unrest in South Africa has risen to 32. 26 people have died in KwaZulu-Natal province, the regional prime minister said they were crushed as rioters fled.
KwaZulu-Natal is home to former President Zuma, who has to sit for 15 months for contempt of court. Demonstrations against his imprisonment turned into riots.
In recent days, the unrest has spread to the Gauteng province, where the metropolis of Johannesburg is located. There were also deaths there.
In Johannesburg, Durban and Pietermaritzburg, among others, looted on a large scale. More than 700 people have been arrested and damage amounting to tens of millions of euros has been caused.
