The coronavirus mutation B1.1.7. has now also reached the Vechta district. It had been proven in two people who returned to Germany from Great Britain at the end of 2020, said the deputy head of the state government’s Corona crisis team, Claudia Schröder, on Tuesday in Hanover. They went into quarantine immediately after entering the country.

In addition, four contact persons from her household were quarantined. Symptoms of Covid-19 have not yet occurred to the contact persons, explained Schröder. Those affected should be retested on Tuesday when the quarantine expires.

The variant B1.1.7. had already been detected in the Hanover region and in Baden-Württemberg at the end of December. The new virus strain is considered to be far more contagious than the previous coronavirus. It is still unclear whether it is also more dangerous. Type B1.1.7. is currently prevalent mainly in Great Britain In London, 60 percent of all people suffering from corona are already infected with the virus mutation.
