“At Aubenas hospital, 8 people in intensive care, 7 received two injections of vaccine”: this message posted on the internet a few days ago, relayed more than 2,500 times on Twitter, has caused trouble. So much so that the management of the southern Ardèche hospital center had to react on the social network: “false and unfounded information”. According to the Ardèche prefecture, there was only 3 patients in intensive care (and not 8) including 2 actually vaccinated. However, this small sample does not allow, according to the State services, to draw conclusions and to make statistics.
Cases of patients vaccinated in Montélimar or Romans-sur-Isère
Aubenas hospital is no exception. The Montélimar hospital center also has Covid patients who have received two doses. Currently, of the 7 patients followed in intensive care, 1 is vaccinated. 22 other patients are admitted to the Covid unit, 4 received their two doses of serum. Romans-sur Isère hospital also counts 2 vaccinated patients among the 4 patients infected by the virus and followed in polyvalent medicine. “These two people who suffer from comorbidities are doing well” specifies the management, “they undoubtedly escaped resuscitation precisely because they were vaccinated”.
An inevitable increase in the number of vaccinated patients
For Dr Claude Leicher, head of the Valence vaccination center, “it is well known, the vaccine does not protect 100%, so there are a very small number of those vaccinated people who can have a Covid, but since these vaccinated people represent a very large part of the population, numerically speaking that makes a significant number of people, AND vaccinated, AND able to catch a Covid “.
People suffering from co-morbidities, the main victims
Doctor Leicher adds: “The vaccinated people who are found in intensive care are fragile people suffering from comorbidities, diabetes, heart failure, neurological disease, perhaps decompensated by a phenomenon which is not a very serious phenomenon but which is destabilizing enough to take them to intensive care “.
