Monkeypox Outbreak in DKI Jakarta: Residents Isolated and Being Monitored for Health

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Disease cases monkeypox or monkey pox was discovered in DKI Jakarta some time ago.

Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said that currently residents who were exposed to monkey pox have been isolated.

“The person concerned has been isolated, and the person concerned continues to have contact with anyone we have tracingit’s ongoing tracing,” said Heru at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday (18/10/2023).

Heru said that residents who were exposed to monkey pox are currently still being monitored by the DKI Jakarta Health Service. One thing that is being monitored is his health condition.

“We asked who he had been in contact with in the previous 24 hours. We looked for him. We’ve looked for him. We’ve found him. We’ve got him. He’s being tested for health. Hopefully we can localize it,” said Heru.

Previously, member of the Ministry of Health’s Surveillance and Quarantine Directorate Working Team, Chita Septiawati, said that the patient who was confirmed positive for monkeypox was a resident of DKI Jakarta.

“The case of monkey pox was reported on October 14 2023,” said Chita.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Ministry of Health’s Communications and Public Services Bureau, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, confirmed the discovery of a positive case of monkey pox in a resident of DKI Jakarta.

“There is one case. So there are a total of two cases of monkey pox in Indonesia,” said Nadia when contacted by Kompas.com, Tuesday (17/10/2023).

A previous case of monkey pox was also found in DKI Jakarta on August 20 2022.

Monkey pox is a disease that can be transmitted from animal to animal and can also be transmitted from animals to humans.

The cause is the monkeypox virus, which is a member of the Orthopoxvirus genus and the Poxviridae family.
