Monkeypox infections triple in a week | Abroad

The virus appeared in England at the beginning of May. Most infections occur in the United Kingdom (207), followed by Spain (156) and Portugal (138). Forty infections were known in the Netherlands on 2 June.

After an infection with the monkeypox virus, most people recover within three to four weeks. The virus is transmitted through close contact. The first symptoms are fever, swollen lymph nodes and skin rash.

The WHO takes into account that the disease will spread further, but does not expect a worldwide epidemic.
