Monkeypox Can Trigger Severe Complications to Cause Death

JawaPos.com – The Association of Indonesian Dermatologists (Perdoski) said that monkeypox infection can lead to severe complications and even death.

“Although monkeypox is said to be mild, the complications can be everywhere,” said Perdoski representative Prasetyadi Mawardi at an online press conference attended in Jakarta, Tuesday.

According to him, the disease can become more serious for some people and potentially lead to death. He said that the initial complication of monkeypox occurred on the skin, namely the occurrence of a secondary infection of the skin causing a rash.

Monkeypox infection can continue and cause complications in other parts of the body, such as pneumonia, pneumonia. “Then it can enter the brain, can be encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and continue in severity until death,” he said.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Monkeypox PB IDI Task Force, Hanny Nilasari, appealed to the public to always apply the Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS) to reduce the risk of transmitting infectious diseases such as monkeypox that hit the world. “In general, PHBS is something that we must do together to prevent this disease (monkeypox),” he said.

In addition, he said, the public was also advised to discipline health protocols such as wearing masks and maintaining hand hygiene. In order to avoid being exposed to the monkeypox virus, he also appealed to the public to avoid direct contact with animals that transmit monkeypox, such as rodents, marsupials, non-human primates, whether dead or alive animals.

He added, if someone has a rash, accompanied by fever or clinical symptoms suspect monkeypox infection, immediately contact the local health service facility. “The public is encouraged to voluntarily provide honest information if they experience symptoms or have contact with monkeypox patients,” he said.
