BANDUNG, KOMPAS — One patient with a case of monkey pox in West Java is still in isolation at Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung City. Tracing the potential for case transmission is still being carried out, especially with close contact. Hospitals in West Java were also asked to be on alert.

Head of the West Java Health Service (Dinkes) Vini Adiani Dewi in Bandung, Thursday (2/11/2023), stated that there were still two cases of monkey pox or mpox in West Java. One patient is still in isolation at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) Bandung City. Meanwhile, one patient identified in Karawang Regency has been declared cured.

Apart from these two cases, one suspect from Bogor has also tested negative. Even though no new cases have been found, Vini still asks the public to be alert because mpox disease spreads quickly.

“Until now there have been no new cases. In West Java, there have only been two confirmed cases of monkey pox, one from residents of Karawang and one in Bandung City. “Those in Bandung are still in isolation, while those in Karawang have recovered,” he said.

Even though the patient from Karawang is being treated in Jakarta, health workers there are still tracing the patient’s family. From this search using the anamnesis or interview method, Vini said that his party did not find any indication of mpox transmission or symptoms that point to the disease.

“In Karawang, there were no reports of transmission to families. From the results of the anamnesis, during the last 21 days no patient’s family had experienced mpox. “For those in Bandung, we are still investigating where the transmission came from because they said they had never had contact (with someone infected with mpox),” he said.

Last Tuesday, a patient with suspected monkeypox was found. Furthermore, laboratory tests were carried out and the results on Friday showed that the patient was positive for MPOX.

Acting West Java Governor Bey Machmudin also reminded every health facility to be alert. Coordination needs to be carried out to prepare treatment when residents report illnesses that lead to mpox.

“Until now there has been no call for restrictions, everything is prevented by a healthy lifestyle and avoiding direct contact. “For hospitals, there is coordination so they are ready to receive them if someone is infected,” he said.

In a separate statement, Head of the RSHS Special Infection Team, Yovita Hartanti, said that one mpox patient who was admitted was a 36 year old man and came from the city of Bandung. Treatment at the RSHS home, he continued, aims to determine the degree of disease so that the next steps for healing can be determined.

“Last Tuesday, a patient with suspected monkeypox was found. “Furthermore, laboratory tests were carried out and the results last Friday found that the patient was positive for MPox,” he said.

Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division of the Bandung City Health Office, Ira Dewi Jani, explained that his party would monitor the patient’s family members who live in the same house as him. This was carried out at the same time as searching for other close contacts.

“From the monitoring results until Monday (30/10), the patient’s condition is still clinically stable. Initially there was fever, aches and back pain. “Then lesions (skin that broke due to infection) appeared on his hands and feet so he went to the community health center for treatment and it turned out to be mpox,” he said.

To prevent transmission, Ira appealed to the public to avoid direct contact with patients suspected of having mpox. Direct contact with lesions makes transmission faster, even wound skin that flies in large quantities and sticks to people’s skin can also be contagious.

“Even though we are alert, the public is advised to remain calm. The first step to take is to recognize mpox early and recognize the signs. If you have a fever, let alone enlarged lymph nodes, you should be alert. “If a lesion appears that contains pus and a dot like a donut in the middle, immediately go to the nearest health facility,” he said.
