(CNN) – The announcement that former independent prosecutor Ken Starr will join the defense team of political judgment of President Donald Trump surprised many on Friday, but one person, apparently, had a particularly notable reaction to the News.
“This is definitely a day of the type‘ Are you joking *******? ” tweeted Monica Lewinsky, the White House expander, whose relationship with former President Bill Clinton led to the trial political of the then president in 1998.
Lewinsky did not make it explicitly clear that he was referring to the hiring of Starr and his successor as an independent prosecutor, Robert Ray, by the Trump team, but his name will always be linked to Starr’s forever. His investigation revealed Lewinsky’s involvement with Clinton, who was later charged on charges of lying under oath before a federal investigative jury and for obstructing justice in the matter. He was later acquitted by the Senate in February 1999.
Lewinsky, who struggled to maintain a private life after the affair, only recently began to address his experience. In 2018, agreed to participate in a documentary on the matter to make sure that his experience “never happens to another young person in our country”.
On Twitter, Lewinsky has become a vocal activist antibullying, regularly shedding light on the problem of online abuse. He has also provided general comments on the #MeToo movement.
