Shortly before the end of the year, the members of the district council met again in a meeting.

Werra-Meißner – The renovation of the schools and the district roads in the Werra-Meißner district was included in the investment program along with numerous other points for the period up to 2024 by the district committee. At the last meeting of the Werra-Meißner district council in December, the draft was now adopted by a majority.

This means that an amount of just under 88.6 million euros is earmarked for the updated investment program from 2020 to 2024. While 20 percent of the money, 17.5 million euros, will go to investments that will be continued, the majority is intended for new projects. Here the share should amount to 71.1 million euros.

Major investments are planned in the following staffs and departments, among others:

In addition to the investments in the school digital pact, investments in the procurement of hardware and software for the administration are also planned for the administrative management and control staff.

It was already determined in previous years that investments should be made in fire and disaster protection, which is part of the danger prevention staff. The defenses of the cities and municipalities in the district also benefit. Fire fighting vehicles and equipment sheds are in the design.

In department 4 (youth, family, senior citizens and social affairs), smaller amounts of money are to be used for projects by youth communities in the district. For the year 2021, the expansion of childcare in the municipalities is also to be financed with 5.8 million euros from federal and state pots.

Money was already planned for sports funding. This falls under Faculty 6 – Education and District Development.

Now the district council members have also given their approval for investments in economic development and broadband expansion in the district. In addition, money should flow into the rehabilitation of the district roads.

According to District Administrator Stefan Reuss, the largest investments are planned in Department 7 (Building and Environment). For the years from 2021, not only are investments in the schools in the Werra-Meißner district due, but also the renovation of the administrative buildings in the district town of Eschwege.(May)
