Parents whose children are looked after at home often still pay a contribution to independent daycare providers. The Offenbach city council decided to examine how a refund and exemption from contributions can be made possible.
From February 22nd, all children can be looked after in the day-care centers in Hessen. Nevertheless, some independent organizations would continue to collect the contributions for the care, although parents look after their children at home, said the SPD city councilor Gertrud Marx on Thursday in the city council. “There must be an exemption from contributions for these parents and at the same time financial compensation for the independent institutions,” she and her party demanded in an application. The monthly twelve million euros from the state of Hesse would not be enough.
“Although the independent sponsors knew that they had received part of the compensation, they continued to collect the contributions,” reported youth director Sabine Groß. Nevertheless, many would have continued to collect the fee in full last year and thus received more money during the pandemic. In Offenbach, 44.1 percent of the children are currently cared for in daycare centers, despite the recommendation that the children be cared for at home. The municipal authorities, however, do not collect any contributions if the child is looked after by the parents for four weeks or more.
Because the SPD’s original application implied this, the Tanzania coalition had tabled an amendment. This was accepted and is intended to examine how parents whose contributions have been collected by private organizations can get their money back. Tim
