Mona Keijzer fired from cabinet after criticism of corona pass Inland

Keijzer’s statements ‘do not agree with decisions recently taken by the Council of Ministers, and which are of an important and weighty nature’, says a statement from the Government Information Service.

So Rutte has decided, after consultation with Minister Blok (Economic Affairs) and Deputy Prime Ministers De Jonge (CDA), Ollongren (D66) and Schouten (CU), to ‘nominate Keijzer for dismissal with immediate effect’. Keijzer’s tasks will be taken over by Minister Blok.

Keijzer got into trouble because of an interview with this newspaper, in which she questioned the import of that corona pass. She thought that it was ‘not really explainable’ to entrepreneurs.

The CDA member emphasized that she did agree with the cabinet decision: “I would like to say that I have brought up this side of the discussion. But at a certain point there will be a cabinet decision and then that is the decision.”

But a storm of criticism soon arose from The Hague. After all, the cabinet speaks with one voice, according to the rules of procedure of the Council of Ministers: “Under no circumstances will a minister or state secretary act against a decision of the council.”
